Tumakuru is one of the industrial cities of Karnataka, also known as Shaikshanika Nagari (city of education) and Kalpatharu Nadu (land of coconut trees). It is one of the seven smart cities in Karnataka taken up under Smart City Mission. Some of the major Proposed Projects are- Smart Infrastructure, ICT Interventions, Sustainable Projects and PPP Projects etc. Additionally, 1600 existing schools and education institutions will be used as incubation centers to run 353 skill development programs to support current and future industry. The Projects under the Smart City Proposal anticipate to provide a Safety enabled, Smart Transit, and Green infrastructure for the Tumakuru citizens. Tumkur hosts India’s first mega food park, a project of the ministry of food processing, which was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in September 2014.
